CNBC just had Hemant Shaw on again from HKS. He thoiught that just about any combo was possible. He thought that PNU had 6-9 months to fix management problems or they would be fixed from the outside. He thought that most mergers were dependent on mangement wanting to do the deal. He also mentioned increased R&D. As things continue to grow, pharms need to find blockbuster drugs that target markets in excess of $1 Billion. To do so mergers will allow for cuts in management, sales, and marketing (where merged companies would have considerable overlap) and savings would be plowed into R&D to find the blockbuster drugs.

At H&Q LGND discussed the upcomimg IND filings slated for this year, and noted that 6 of the 7 addressed Billion dollar markets. LGND's fantastic pipeline will continue to impress the pharmas. The street is usually a bit slower on figuring these things out.
