As Gertrude Stein said: "A rose by any other name is still a rose."

I guess Shakespeare said it before in Romeo and Juliet
"A rose by any other name would smell just as sweet."

"One can easily tell Lincoln was a liberal!"
If you look at a list of presidents, it's Lincoln (R), not Lincoln (L).

"So until after the turn of the last century the Republican party was the liberal party and the Democrats were the conservative party."
For the first 45 years of that century, civil rights was ignored. During the next 20, legislation was being blocked by the D's, and being passed because R's broke the filibusters.
