It's clear we had trillion-dollar deficits before the virus. None of the tax cuts paid for themselves and yet one party can't stop themselves. States too did the same thing. They gave away money they didn't have and now their pension plans are a disaster Add a pandemic to the mix and they're crippled. Without free money from the government during the 2007 and 2020 recessions almost all our states would be bankrupt. In the best of times we have only a few states that are taxed more than they get from the government. We have a nation of welfare states. Look at Texas. More welfare because it snowed.
