Re: The SE Asian Economic Crisis. While you make an excellent point regarding the Indonesian crisis and rupiah, I think what a lot of analysts look at are Japan and Korea. Those two being the No. 2 and No. 11 largest economies are viewed as being the keys to the recovery in the region. Japan is taking contructive steps to restructure basic financial institutions and S. Korea has made the necessary steps to put their economic crisis behind them. The remaining SE Asian countries, while they do present a serious problem in the region, do not impact the global economy as much as Japan and S. Korea.
That's my explanation for why some analysts see fit to be upbeat going forward. Even Abbey noticed that derailing our supertanker economy would take much more economic turmoil than we have now even if it couldn't sufficiently be quantified now. The fact that Japan and Korea have acknowledged the seriousness of the predicament and are taking the necessary steps to remedy the problem, may have provided the necessary backdrop for Byron to upgrade his equity positions. Also, better than expected earnings didn't hurt either.
