False. They are effective. I became aware of how much muck people emit from their mouths about 3 decades ago at Natwest Bank, Moorgate, London

The tellers had glass between customers and them. I asked the young woman why they had that, thinking that it was security. In New Zealand we had gone to an open format for bank tellers, so I thought they were just old fashioned.

She pointed to the glass. I saw it was covered in hundreds of spittle drops. I understood. Disgusting.

Masks stop your disgusting spittle going over people.

Little drops float around.
