<<CNN Business Day reported this morning that Aetna, CNC, and another company who's name I did not catch, are said to be in negotiations with Oxford Health. Maybe a three way deal with Aetna buying Oxford and then CNC buying Aetna Life?

If CNC were to purchase Oxford, would it be accretive?>>

CNC won't buy Oxford. Assuming you mean Aetna Life, yes it will be accretive, or CNC wouldn't make the deal. It would be nice if CNC could unload some of their group health plans or Med Supp businesses to Aetna as part of the purchase price for the life unit! Aetna could then fold those plans into their HMO's, and add subscribers?

I guess the only thing to keep in mind is that Aetna is being "shopped" to highest bidders, which means CNC will not win if the bidding gets above their very disciplined approach to acquisitions. If CNC could use the Aetna Life name, that would be nice to fold in several of the other small life and annuity companies into either Aetna Life or Conseco Life. CNC would get some brand recognition with Aetna Life to go along with the new Conseco brand building.

Something tells me CNC will acquire Aetna Life, and they'll out do the other bidders creatively, while still keeping the deal accretive. I hope we see such an announcement soon.
