I should think Maxtor could be buying IBM heads to get this advanced capacity. Would be a real coupe if Maxtor started having some of the highest end systems. I think they will put great pressure on WDC.

I think the market will benefit from Maxtor's credit crunch, but it's a bit of a shame to see them doing so well and have these troubles. Any thoughts on them buying Samsung's drive division?

Does anyone know the termination fees that WDC will pay for heads and media and whether these fees will give any short term benefit for selling products that didn't have to be made?

Regards,

Mark

>That's the name of the game I think... If they meet that aggr schedule then they win.

Note the breakneck pace of new drive introductions.

maxtor.com

Maxtor seems to be aiming for a new generation every 4 months, much faster than the old pace of 6 months. Considering that no drive maker has yet to skip a generation (even though we all thought SEG skipped the 1.6), whoever can't keep up is toast.

Too bad there's no bloatware to fill up these drives.
