It seems that Clinton et al (Rubin, Greenspan and every analyst in sight) have painted a very rosy economic picture for 1998. When the economy goes well, people forget other troubles (or scandals?). Just check Clinton's approval rating and try to understand.
I also suspect that there has not been any bad news from Japan and probably won't be for the coming weeks because of Nagano Olympics. Bad for PR.

Go figure this market. Overvalued stocks get more overvalue and cheap stocks get cheaper.

You got the essence of the irrational bull market. IMO this is gonna end with a Japan style bubble burst. Yes, Asian crisis is actually the best thing that could have happened to the market. Even Greenspan is saying it!
