A lot of the uncontrolled train movement in Canada can be blamed on the influence of Hunter

Harrison ,, bottom line first,, short cut first,, safety last. In those years was excellent for CN &CP shareholders

if you look at the charts . Management coerced, and threatened employees and fired them especially

regarding hand brake rules ,,,taking chances ,,and getting away with them,, mostly.

As posted up thread,, telling a conductor to put 84 brake retainers on a train with basically no air ,,

unbelievable madness. Brake retainers are useful , and safe when applied on a train at the top of 2% grade

hill with a fully charged train line,, they maintain a brake on those cars all the way down the hill and must be

taken off at the bottom of the hill.

The new rule 66 states that the number of hand brakes applied on a standing or crippled train

on all grades , relate to the total tonnage of that train and the grade on which the train is on ,, eg more

tonnage ,steeper grade ,,equates to more hand brakes. A chart is provided in this rule so there is no doubt ..

BUT ,,,BUT you must talk to management first ,,,is that so they can send help? not likely.

More likely,, so they can somehow snake their way around the new hand brake rule.

That watch sounds like a beauty and hopefully kept in your family .Thanks for the link.
