Out of my flock of five hens, two are close to
four years old. Between the five of them we
average four eggs per day.

The only time we had to kill one was to put her
out of her misery after a dog attack. We buried
her. We had that luxury.

Living on the farm years ago, we raised layers
and fryers. The fryers never reached egg bearing
age. In those days I didn’t allow myself to
become ‘attached’.
