I hate to say it but 65% of our power comes from
burning diesel. Every year Haida Gwaii uses 10 million
litres of diesel.

there are two electrical grids on Haida Gwaii – the
north grid and the south grid. The north services
1,430 customers and includes Old Massett, Masset,
Tow Hill, and Port Clements. The south grid provides
power to 1,650 customers in Tlell, Skidegate, Queen
Charlotte, and Sandspit.

In my life time I've seen a coal furnace, a sawdust furnace, an oil furnace, a gas furnace and all electric heat, my old house has a wood airtight fireplace and to save on the heating bill i used it when it got real cold. British Columbia has Hydro electric power and lots of natural gas, our old houses had central heating, a furnace in the basement and a hot air grate in the middle of the main floor of the house, the bedrooms were cold. My Aunt had a house like that, when I went to read my cousins comics their bedrooms were quite cool.
