Thanks for the outline of what you like to do. It's always interesting to see what others do, as there are so many ways to profit. I like the idea of using the bonds as a cash substitute. Very smart. Might look at that myself, but if I am at risk of being assigned regularly it may not work. The assignment would always be on margin and that's a no for me.

I'll have to re-read your post a few times as there is a great deal of good information.

wrt. the moving averages. I don't want to get too hung up on the indicator. Its just a trend indicator and from my own work moving averages work as well as anything to indicate trend. The strategy would simply be write puts in an uptrend and don't do anything in a downtrend. Given that we're in uptrends for probably 80% of the time I thought it might have merit to do something like this.

I have in the past rolled positions too. The reason I am not doing so here is simply because on a roll you usually give up some premium to accomplish the roll. If I were to simply take the stock, I am immediately writing the same premium next week. Just in a call.

Options writing as a primary strategy is new to me. Prior to this most of my trades involved owning stock, options or futures. These are all directional and trend strategies and I am one of those that thinks the trend is going to end eventually, so directionless or at least selling premium will be more important over the next few years.

Thanks again.
