It seems you constantly want to give Biden a pass on major screwups. Where we differ is the definition of "major" and "screw-up." I understand the policy issues regarding minimum wage, the competing arguments. In my perfect world, the federal government would have no say on what an employer pays an employee. Not its lane. But this isn't a perfect world and we deal with the circumstances in which we find ourselves. My main interactions with the business world are food and medical. Medical charges ridiculous prices and apparently has no association whatsoever with the minimum wage. OTOH, food is so cheap it seems impossible. I have for years eaten lunch out every day. Even in the pandemic I have been doing so although I have limited to restaurants where you can order on line and get curbside pickup. I am constantly amazed at how these restaurants, mostly local, ethnic places, can produce big plates of delicious food for ten bucks or so, often well under that. I suppose that a seven buck minimum wage contributes to that. I don't know why anyone would bother to get out of bed in the morning and commute to work for seven bucks an hour. That's a ridiculous amount to offer any adult. So if it makes the champions of the underdog feel good about forcing that rate up and the underdogs are willing to risk job loss for higher wages, I'm not about to protest. I'll pay an extra buck or two for lunch. And continue to feel fortunate that I have great medical coverage. So, in conclusion, if they raised the minimum wage to $15 effective tomorrow, that might approach major screw-up territory. But the raise would be gradual and the market would have time to adjust. If the increase proved to be too much, the rate of increase could always be adjusted downward. It's not like a mistake here would be unrecoverable. Even if this is more screw-up than irritant, it's hardly major. Not in the grand scheme of things. You're being hyperbolic and histrionic putting this action in the "major" class. It just ain't. Not when compared to driving a wedge into the country, blowing off the balance of power, or cutting us off from our allies and friends. No comparison. Earlier I asked you for examples of where you were seeing autocracy and hits on the rule of law. You didn't address those characteristics but came back with two issues. One was the above, minimum wage, and the other continued mask wearing. Were those intended as my examples or were you just wandering off on your gripes of the day? If they were intended as examples, please connect the dots.
