Elroy, I think you are missing the idea that investing and picking stocks is fun to do. Investing creates activity and excitement for people as good as or better than the casino. An index fund by definition takes all that away. As far as yourself having a substantial portion of your investing dollars in SIMO, there's a corollary to the "Don't put all your eggs into one basket" advice. And that is "Put all your eggs into one basket and WATCH THE BASKET!" All the best to you--keep your eyes and ears open.... Regards, Mike
