If everyone could have been vaccinated early in the pandemic, there would be no variants. The virus would have been extinct like SARS-COV-1. The longer vaccination takes, the more variants will develop. As it is, all vaccine makers are preparing a third vaccination, and it won't matter which type you receive. . Novavax (a very inexpensive vaccine not yet completed trials) wants to combine their "Covid variant" booster with their annual Influenza product. Going forward the recombinant Novavax will likely be even quicker to completion than the mRNA approach.
