I don't understand why Real Networks (RNWK) didn't get the same reception.

Probably because VRSN helps move money, and RNWK doesn't. I doubt NSCP ran up to $170 because its browsers had neato spinning graphics. That company, like VRSN, facilitates Internet commerce, so it attracts special interest.

Anyway, speaking of Netscape, was anyone on this thread an active investor at NSCP's IPO? I wasn't, so I don't remember exactly how it went. Was the initial runup only on the first day? Did the stock go way up and down in the following weeks? Was it like $20 to $170 to $100 to $160 to $80 to $150? Or was it just a gigantic pop that faded immediately?

What I'm getting at is whether there's money still to be made in VRSN (given that we can go only long) by trading it. Not daytrading, but still quick (several days) trading.
