greg s: re: wishes the grandkids would visit once in a while

Well, those "grandkids" are being raised by their parents, whose parents happen to be your own kids. Those kids were the ones you raised, before they moved away to pursue an environment more compatible with their own interests.

There's a message there somewhere.

Perhaps make your home environment a more welcoming place to grow up and expand their horizons.

Maybe your kids would come back more often.

And bring your grandkids.

The "You" references above are not targeted at YOU, personally.

Sure is a pretty day.

Lol! And I'm sure you would refuse to be a member of a club that would have you as a member, right?*

I don't put SI in the category of, say, MySpace, where the concept itself is outdated. Message boards may go out of style, but, absent people figuring out a better way to quickly communicate either in writing or perhaps without writing, message boards will be with us for the foreseeable future. iHub is killing it with much the same UI. A crowd attracts a crowd. I truly believe we can get the crowds back with the tweaks I wrote prior. The question is, how do I/we do that without tripping over everyone's ventilator plug or catheter tubes?

My analogy is that SI is like the hotel in The Shining. How do you update the place without incurring the wrath of those quite content at roaming the halls as they are? If guests start filling the rooms, the ballroom, the bar, etc, will they feel an urge to embrace the crowd or rather to pick up an axe?

To be clear. I'm willing to try. And soon. Now if someone would please help me hide the pick axes.

So do you think someone like Chowder should be able to monetize his following here on SI? Obviously, like any crowdsourcing platform, SI would benefit as well. This way, SI stays free, except perhaps for some future premium features, and SI retains its talent.

Yes, still working on making this a reality. Still willing to fail miserably in pulling it off, though!
