>>Question flash cards. Do they hold memory if you remove them from the slot. That is, do they need current to hold memory image stored? If, for example, flash cards got down to $80 for 16 MB as you predict, can you put the stored images in your pocket and plug them into another machine later and retrieve those images as you would be able to with a Zip or Clik disk?<<

David -

I know you didn't ask me, but yes, flash cards do retain their data when taken out of whatever device you're using them in.

So if flash really comes down to that price, for only 8 times the price of a Clik! disk you could have nearly half the capacity! Very exciting.

But seriously, since flash is totally non-mechanical, it is more durable than any disk could be, which means it's worth the extra money to some people.

Still, there may be a few people who think that twentyfive cents a meg beats five bucks a meg.

You can remove a flash card and move it to another device with no loss of data and no need for any power/current to maintain the data in the card. The data can be stored on the card in your pocket for years (100 years).
