Mohan, I don't know enough about SFAM to comment, sorry. I do own Lam (LRCX) thru Ontrak acquisition. Ontrak was CMP and has CEO Bagley from AMAT. My thinking is buy these companies when they have new products bringing in new revenues and try to get them at or near the bottom of their cycles.(duh, what a concept!) Since volatility is so high, this is quite the challenge. My latest indicator idea is use Intel as a forward predictor. AMAT follows Intel first followed by the smaller companies later(LRCX and UTEK that I own and follow). I am on record for picking my local bottom for these three at :

(btw, Intel was my #4 pick, but not posted since I only wanted to do 3 stocks) My idea seems to be holding as AMAT had early strength following Intel and now Lam and Utek are showing nice gains.
