Ali - AMD hosts the big Gamers Convention in Seattle

Maybe they delivered their first K6+3D chips at the convention?

Ali,

"...far away from understanding the current PC technology."

It is you who do not understand the current PC technology. As you mentioned, the product cycle for new motherboards has to be under 6 months. Without new motherboards, there would not be any CPU sold. That is why Intel needs to get the new motherboards into the market for the new CPUs.

At least Intel is doing the industry a favor by introducing new motherboards. Where is AMD's contribution to promote new CPU sales? Since Intel is not making any money on motherboards, they would be very happy if some one else would do the dirty work. Your logic is blatantly off course. Don't let your jealousy of Intel's success fabricate your illogical judgements!

John.

Ali the chipmakers, Intel included produce the specs for their chip sets well in advance, and they are tested by the board makers, and revised until they are useable by a wide spectrum of board makers. The other chip set vendors work from new CPU specs and software updates to get them ready ASAP. The Taiwanese can have a new board prototype in 2-3 days after getting chip set specs and samples. They can do test cycles and make a next protoype board in 1-2 days, so they can respond very quickly. Faster than Intel with all their advance knowledge. Modern logic analyzers can measure the timing and other parameters to help get the board made fast.
Do not forget the chip set makers want the boards to run well. If Intel did not want that, it need just make a chip set and never sell it, just use it for boards.
A friend of mine works for a Taiwan company and he tells me that when a hew chip set comes out it is 24 hours aday work to get the motherboard ready and through all the prototype cycles needed to make it go. Most chip set vendors provide a schematic start motherboard, and they just optimize is and find the parametric variability with assorted glue and other parts to allow them to make a high yield board.
