A cat makes a good pet, very low maintenance. My sister had to have a series of allergy shots due to the family cat, there was never any thought of abandoning the cat.

The only downside I have with cats is toxoplasmosis. I know a family that has up to 8 cats in their house, one day the father's retina detached and was luckily sewn back on thanks to an incredible local eye surgeon, two weeks later the other retina detached. He died 10 months later after a series of organ failures, it was quite tragic. I told his history to a family friend, a doctor at the Mayo Clinic making sure to mention the troop of cats and she said it was very possible he contracted ocular toxoplasmosis from the cats.

After an uncle passed away we became concerned for his dog, after the funeral we found the dog dead under his front porch steps. Family and friends who knew the dog were in an out of the house over those few days, he had access to water and food but his will to carry on was gone.

"something about sneezing"

Weekly Cat Bathing

Not all cats are equally sneeze inducing

But, also, not all humans with allergies are equally intolerant...
If only mild, other steps can help limit the problem...

It is a lot of work and self limits applied just for a cat...
But, if to be a cat... should try to meet needs ?

"Coming soon"... fascinating to learn this...

From 2015: Shots... to cure the cat allergy people have...
From 2016: Circassia slumps as cat allergy vaccine fails late-stage trial

From Nov 2020: Shots... to cure the allergen in the cat... "a finished product won’t be available at least until 2022".

Also Nov 2020: Shots for cats again... or a CRISPR cat...

Odd there's not been any news on conventional breeding to reduce the allergen potential ?

Are GMO cats OK... if you don't plan to eat them ?
