Ms Yiwu :

Last time I was in Canada, most Canadian provinces posted either
in MPH or both ways. This occured in Quebec, which is , IMO, the most
European Province in Canada.... particularly French.

Metric speed limits may have spread all the way across Canada now, I do not know. It has been many years since I had occaision to visit
Canada. The people there are very nice.....other than the RCMP that
could not understand why I thought 100 really meant 100. Other than that one incident the first rude person I ran into was....an American.
While stopped at the check point to re-enter the U.S., the man asked me if I had anything to declare & he named off a list of items. I answered honestly. "Yes, I bought some cigars a friend of my father's had requested." As it turned out, they were Havana cigars, (as in Cuba). I'm here to tell you, I do not think there would have been
a bigger fuss if I had told the man I had my car trunk full of
opium! Heck, they might have let that slip on by, but those Cuban Cigars were a big no-no.

Ms. Yiwu (the "Ms" is a term of respect for a lady), while I do
try to learn about other countries, especially HK , China, Japan,
I still live in the U.S., which means I do not get the typical international information many are accustomed to. I figured out a few things in the metric system when I was going to meet the Japanese man & his wife at the airport. I told him to look for a man wearing glasses that was about 180 centimeters tall & weighed 100 kilograms.
(He picked me right out of the crowd. <g>) Metric just is rarely used.
I do recall 0 degrees is not as cold as it sounds, but 100 degrees is REAL hot!

When I get to China, I most likely will not drive. Not being able to read or speak the language could be a real problem. The one thing I
really want to see is the Tiger preserve in Northern China. I enjoy tigers & would truly love to visit there. Siberian tigers, while bigger than bengal tigers, are even less likely to harm a human. They
have an excellent personality.

Regards,

Doug
