Protestant work ethic. It's not that they own it. A work ethic is just part of Virtuous Victorian Values which they tended to manifest, but which anyone can use too.

When stuck in a collectivist, kleptocratic, tribal culture, with little private property, a work ethic isn't rewarding.

So, for example, the old joke in USSR = We pretend to work and they pretend to pay us.

Of course work ethic exist everywhere. I was using Protestant work ethic as an example. My mistake.
