There is a wonderful passage in Martha Quest (Doris Lessing) where her young heroine is being made love to and is furious because the man keeps telling her how beautiful she is, which won't allow her to focus on her own feelings, but instead forces her to see herself as an object, bringing him pleasure. Most younger women tend to see themselves that way--where hopefully with age, we learn that sex is about connection and mutual pleasure. And that's we expect and demand. That and that the lights be out. What is youth except a man or woman before it is fit to be seen? -Evelyn Waugh
