(humans are the dominant species IMO for two reasons.. our animal spirits AND no less important our altruism.. neither qualities are the exclusive purview of either side of the political divide which exists in the US AND Canada... Ayn Rand looks only to one side in my opinion.. The combination is what has made us so successful... My comments were more general, not specific to yours. Generally, critiques of Ayn Rand are founded on nothing much more than virtue signaling "look at me destroying the evil icon". Like the Taleban destroyed the giant Buddhist statues. But without reasoning or understanding of what she actually wrote. It's like the attacks on Trump. Mostly people are thinking based on false ideas. Such as: Russia Russia Russia No wiretap Fine People hoax = Charlotteville Ukraine phone call Hollywood pussy grab tape Capitol armed insurrection Etc etc etc... surprising how many people get their opinions ready made from CNN lies. Wanting to believe is very dangerous. I have lost bigly when I have made that mistake. It's a very human danger. Some people are much more vulnerable than others. In your anti Rand comment, the straw dog was that she looked at only one side of altruism and animal spirits. She was very opposed to both altruism and sacrifice. And also opposed to animal spirits. She was for the mind and reason, not altruistic animalistic thinking/spirits. I disagree with your reasons for human success = animal spirits + altruism. All animals have animal spirits. Chimps have plenty and plenty of people are like chimps. So that's nothing special in people. Altruism is no use either. The greatness of people derives more from individual men having great ideas, thinking power and desire for success. That people cooperate is a necessary but not sufficient condition. Inasmuch as these great men (not women), do their greatness for the benefit of everyone, there's an altruistic aspect to it, in that they are not doing it just for themselves, but they are not sacrificing themselves which is the normal meaning of altruism. Mqurice PS... Going OK for an old geezer, thanks, who has been beaten down somewhat by the sad reality of people being made of defective meat and DNA, with bung thinking and bad ideology.
