<Ms. McKay, Bear Stearns analyst, just now on CNBC, addressed the effect of y2k on bottom lines. Pointed out that remedial cost must be expensed. Therefore cost has a direct effect on net. She sees market not reflecting this until second-half.

<Someone neglected to tell Filene's Basement..>

OH NOOOOOOO ... No more deals for me at Filenes. I liked those deep discounts.

Well, I have to admit I'm happy that Ms. McKay doesn't see this costs being reflected until second-half '98. Let their stupidity work to our advantage on the Y2K sector. Lotta volatility - but right stocks have staying power.

My cash has been locked up with TPRO. It's been driving me crazy that I haven't been on margin and been able to trade. I've had a couple of favorites that I've been biting at the bit to get into. One of them, that I've told a lot of people about since last fall, was CDO. And, I missed the big pop when it was announced today that management was buying $109mil of company's common stock.

C'est la vie. It's still early in the year.

First of the publishers checks in. Last week HTM warned:

The company also said it would have only a "modest" increase in 1998 revenues because of investments in new products and services, as well as operating and support systems needed to comply with year-2000 requirements.
