street cynic, How do you find that post you label as "Mark As Last Read" Mark as last read is really only used as the last message you have read on any given thread. Some people may not have the time to read all the new messages, so clicking that helps them pick up on the thread where they left off. If you are reading the latest new message, and you can't figure out what they are replying to, you can then click on the author of that message. If there is no author, that person has started a new message, not responding to someone. Under tools, go to settings, and make sure under "Author/Recipient order in messages" you choose "recipient first". Once you have saved a thread it will appear under the "Subjectmarks"-- right under "Silicon Investor" at the top of the page. You click on Subjectmarks - on the left is Subjects with new messages, on the right is subjects without new messages. If you want to see the latest new message, click on the picture associated with the thread, and there will be a number there telling you the number of new messages. Hope this helps and is not just more confusing!

If you're reading messages on a thread that has a lot of activity and you have to sign off because life is calling you away from the computer, just click on "Mark as Last Read" and that will allow you to pick up where you left off when you come back to that thread.

Dear Street Cynic....Mebbe I can give you a time saving tip. I only post from my own computer, so there is no need to ever sign out of SI. And if you don't sign out, when you log into any thread, the list of posts will show all of the posts that you have not read (on each thread) in a bright blue color. The posts that you have read on that thread automatically will be changed to a pretty pink. So walla! You simply click on the first blue post - which will be where you left off - and start reading.
