Spent some time on the Compaq internet site as if I was a customer wanting to order online. It is a lot better than it was before Christmas (when it was not working most of the time).

This time I saw I could order online only if I wanted to get a Presario. If I wanted a deskpro, or any of the higher level machines though I was out of luck. They would search out for a dealer for me.

And they give a 800 number which doesn't work from Europe or outside North America. Is compaq looking to serve these markets or what?

Don't the powers that be at compaq realize that many of the people who would order online more likely want a professional machine, not a presario with more limited video driver, no built in network capacity, etc.

If compaq is going to be known for more than a replacement for crappy discounted Packard-Bell machines, they ought to start offering real pro equipment online. Probably only means $5 million or so in sales every day, but hey, that's probably better than any single dealer. Right?
