I agree that there is benefit to be had in selling DEC's PC division, the cash can be used for something else.

In previous posts (quite a while back now, it seems) that in discussions among thread participants about GTW takeover, the main benefit to CPQ would be the ability to sell PCs indirect with Compaq name and direct with Gateway name. It seems to me that this is now possible with DEC name as well.

I agree that Expertise - teaching efficiency is a process that takes time. Acceptance and trust from the recepient is vital. However, DEC has consistently had trouble marketing PCs and would probably listen to CPQ, given their place in the market. I could be wrong, but I think DEC would listen.

While it's true that suppliers might not be the same, this just means maximum possible profit isn't made. Over time suppliers could be changed so that profit maximization was achieved.
