MAYNARD, Mass., Feb 2 (Reuters) - Digital Equipment Corp on
Monday unveiled the latest generation of computer chips based
on its high-speed Alpha architecture.
The company said its third-generation Alpha 21264 family
would deliver up to five times the highest performance of any
chip architecture previously available.
The Alpha chips will operate on Unix, OpenVMS and Windows
NT systems, and will drive high-end systems ranging from
enterprise servers to high-speed workstations.
The first Alpha 21264 chips are sampling at present and
will enter volume production in the spring. They will ship in
systems in the summer, the company said.
