I have two stocks that I think you might look at. Canada has 2 major railway companies...The Canadian National Railways [CNR:TSX] [CNI:NYSE] and the Canadian Pacific Railway [CP:TSX] [CP:NYSE].

Both railways are over 100 years old and important to the development of Canada and its economy. Actually I come from a railway family. My Grandfather worked in a boiler section of the CNR Shops in Transcona and my father worked in the reclaim section of the same place...later in the late 1960's he was the foreman in charge of the "Butt-weld" facility making the 1/4 mile ribbon rail. As a teenager I worked hard once in my life :) when I worked railway construction for 2 summer sessions on "Extra Gang 101" the largest relay gang in western Canada (80 labours with 4 foremen) responsible for laying the 1/4 mile rail.

As I said before Canada is a resource based economy. Rail traffic in Canada does not make money on passenger traffic...the distances are too great and it is more effective to fly across the country as a passenger. But grain/container/metal and recently OIL shipments make up the bulk of both company's business.

Recently the CPR has negotiated the purchase of the Kansas City Southern railway in the USA. This purchase will create the only railway from Canada through the USA to Mexico. This transaction is in the final stages of approval in the USA.... so far it looks good.

here are links to financials for each railway

Here are the Trigger charts for each company

I like the charts for both companies....they are in consolidation right now though the CNR is approaching a breakout. Both company stock issues a dividend....I am leaning towards the CNR mainly because of share cost, however the purchase of the Kansas City Railway should be a big boost to CPR when all the i's are dotted and t's crossed. I don't usually purchase a stock in the $100+ range...it is pretty rich for my blood but I think I should have some exposure at that level..

I don't know if these stocks are of interest for you but I would be interested in your comments.
