SMART SHIP is a Navy initiative to reduce the number of sailors required on board ship. It costs over $1M/man (opps ...person) per year for training, overhead, ect. Industry submits ideas to improve efficiency through technology for consideration. Many ideas from faster ways to paintfloors or to wash toilets are submitted. As for computerized situations, LM has the AN/UYQ-70 contract, which is a COTS based workstation to replace ALL prior LM computers and ALL Hughes Workstations. On an AEGIS ship (CG47 and DDG51 class) there are about 60 LM/HUGHES items to be displaced by usually a fewer number of Q-70's. The recent CCUR order from LM (Eagan, MN) is to add RT boards to the Q-70 family for mission critical tasks, like sonar, radar, and image processing. The Q-70 is the workhorse for all computer-based technology insertion efforts of Smart Ship so CCUR is in a good position. Q-70 is also finding it's way onto the E-2C Navy aircraft, a short-range Radar bird.

It is hard to size the near-term/long-term order potential though, but since the Navy has SO many ships (300) and the Q-70 IS the "Standard" selected by the Navy, the CCUR will have steady long-term business from them.
