3rd generation cellular will be out worldwide starting in 2002...MCOM had better start deploying in a big hurry if they want their user base to be big enough not to get swamped. At data rates of 144kbps (moving) to 2Mbps (stationary), it will blow MCOM away...if the packet charges are reasonable.

Metricom Announces Fourth Quarter 1997 Results....it look's like
METRICOM INC beat expectations.... From Briefing.com
(http://www.briefing.com/schwab/earncal.htm)
MCOM Actual Zacks Yr-ago Revenue
-0.95(a) -0.93 -0.96 142.9%

biz.yahoo.com

From the article: "...Metricom reported revenues of $3.8 million
for the fourth quarter, up from $1.5 million for the same period in
1996. The company reported a net loss for the fourth quarter of $16.6
million, or $1.21 per share, compared to a net loss of $13.0 million,
or $0.96 per share for the same period last year. The Dec. 31, 1997,
loss includes a one-time charge of $3.6 million to write-down
inventory related to older Ricochet subscriber devices. Without this
charge, the net loss would have been $13.0 million, or $0.95 per
share...."

Do we buy more at these levels? The stock still seems a bit high to me
based on fundamental valuation. The selling continued today at higher
than normal volume....I think we continue to go a bit lower before any
longer term rally.
