David and all, 70% wafer starts for SDRAM, does that mean they are being shipped? Does mgt. not know how to plan a product transition? Or is this testing crap just an excuse to try to hold product for a better price? Or is demand a little soft and maybe they refuse to face the music?
Also many have complained of the Korean government subsidizing DRAM. As a primer for Appleton's whining tommorrow, think about this. The US subsidizes technology in many ways. Ever check into where are tax dollars go through the DOD budget? Or NASA? We even do it directly. From CMP today on the new Clinton budget-
"Increased funding for the Advanced Technology
Program at the Commerce Department's National Institute of
Standards and Technology will promote partnerships between the
government and industry in R&D to speed up the process to
commercial payoff and more jobs, the budget said."
Like Intel really needs my tax dollars. Not to mention all the local tax abatement programs. Seems like every new fab in the US gets subsidized. Ever hear of Lehi? Tim
