Big Bucks,>Carl,
If you have ever played chess you realize that there is a strategy
whereby you position your "men" to maintain control of the board.
If Saddam were dead, why would the Arabs need Americans'
stationed in their area. Due to his presence/threat Americans are
welcome where they were previously not welcome. Saddam is the
only reason Americans are still in the Arab countries and have
close political ties with the various friendly governments. Saddam
is also the mortal enemy of Iran due to their long war in the 70s- 80s.
He actually presents a potential threat to Iran to prevent radical
Muslim fundamentalism from overwhelming the area, and turning
the oil producing countries away from the US/West which would
not be in the best interest of the industrialized countries.

In politics nothing is black or white, only shades of gray. Only
those in the highest political/military power really understand
the doctrine/game. The common US citizen has no concept of
military doctrine and gamesmanship required to "control" potential
future situations that might arise if they were left
"uncontrolled".<

Excellent evaluation. IMO, selfinterest always wins out!!!!

Well said BB. I started to respond to Carl's post but at the last minute pressed the "back" button. I was a bit irate to say the least since I still got Kuwaiti oil soot/smoke in my lungs.

To Carl...no offense, did you forget the March to Russia that did not happen in WWII?

Regards,
SF

BB,

Your comments about strategy in the Middle East are well taken. You might also have added that we have no clue about who would succeed Saddam if he were eliminated. There is certainly no "opposition leader" that we know of. Saddam has seen to that. We seem to be sliding down the proverbial slippery slope and, while playing a game of chicken, have increased the stakes enormously. Talk about bad risk/reward ratios!

Regards, Carl
