Bars and restaurants are open to 75% capacity. Many are ignoring the 75% rule with impunity. Except for the annoyance of having to wear masks in interior spaces, I’d say we are back to normal. Economic activity is definitely picking up. We are renovating kitchen, took a trip to Home Depot for Saturday afternoon, only to have to park in a secondary lot. The store was packed. Signs of contractors working on homes are everywhere. Reservations at restaurants for a weekend meal need to be made by Monday or Tuesday. Tourists, especially from Texas, are back. Streetcars are full of them. Ditto the French Quarter. Easy to fly anywhere in the interior US. I understand 1/3 of the US is vaccinated. There will be, as usual, a few nutcases who will refuse the shots. But I think they are statistically insignificant. We are well on the way to herd immunity. The only issue is whether the vaccinations will protect against the variants. Nonetheless, the same economic uptick will happen when the ROW catches up. Spring is a magnificent season in NOLA, just beautiful. The azalea bloom has ended for the most part. Weather has been superb. Crawfish and oysters are in season. The end of the pandemic is in sight, the only remnants of it being the need to socially distance and wear masks in interior spaces. Life is becoming good again. It is interesting that this resurrection took place around Easter time. Happy Easter!
