That's not really inconsistent. He's saying it's essential for making fertilisers, would be useful in making steel (to reduce CO2 emissions), but he doesn't like it for energy storage. My view is that more nuclear power is the most feasible solution. But your view and mine don't matter - the course ahead will be determined by some combination of political and economic factors.

One big problem at the moment is that apparently about 95% of H2 is made from gas - i.e. it's dirty. There are some very rosy predictions about big contributions from solar and wind, but they don't appear to be very realistic. For rather obvious reasons, most H2 is used where it's made.
