My grandma had a roller washer in her basement. It was right next to a high window. She (and us when we helped her) fished an article of clothing out of the rinse water with a section of broom handle, jabbed it into the wringer, and then affixed it to a clothesline on a pully that went out the window. When done she added soap to the old rise water in the tub and it became the next wash. the clothes would be dry by the time the next load was washed and rinsed.
