Barrick (GOLD). Company reports about $3.4B in free cash with market cap about $38B now. Low d/e.

Interest rates increasing? People getting out of gold to get something that pays them something -- bonds, CD's?

Otoh, inflation increasing? People seeking a hedge for that? Getting gold/gold stocks the obvious consideration.

I will at least consider a small GOLD buy.

Scanning Barchart.com for Values and seeking 'Alpha'

It's hard to find value stocks in this market and ones that are moving (attracting new money). A slick feature on Barchart.com is their (1) 5-day gainer list and (2) 5-day loser list.

The 5-day gainer list typically is new money driving prices higher. A further screen under "Main View" is a "Fundamental" screen that allows you to sort the 5-day gainers by different fundamental categories.

I have been looking at PE's in the range of 25 to 9 for ideas. These stocks typically have 'Alpha' (ie s/d perform better than the market)

Alpha is a measure of the active return on an investment, the performance of that investment compared with a suitable market index. An alpha of 1% means the investment's return on investment over a selected period of time was 1% better than the market during that same period; a negative alpha means the investment underperformed the market
Remember, they already have moved for 5 Days but may/could have more 'juice' left. Just an observation.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Have not paid too much attention to the 5-day loser list, but these candidates have various reasons for the selling and may/could have more 'warts'/problems. However, could see potential values if the company problems can be fixed and you have time to wait.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Been focused on the gainer list but more than likely once the 'Alpha' has been harvested, time to move on.

Remember smarter people than you or I already do these scans (like AI programs) but for me, it's follow the money, leave the party early.
