It's a great buying opportunity right now and should it turn down temporarily it will be an even better opportunity. I really believe, however, that the two pending conferences will give the stock a boost and doubt we'll ever see 40 again.
Herb is a good reporter but there's really no comparison between Iomega and Rambus nor Netscape and Rambus. As a matter of fact Rambus is more like a Microsoft in infant stages as opposed to Netscape. Remember when IBM endorsed MS DOS - now Intel endorses Rambus. The new development out of Intel will mean that Rambus' royalties income should accelerate faster than anticipated utilizing their technology also in low-end systems. Iomega on the other hand is making "old" solutions - so many companies have tried to make removable hard-drives and larger capacity "floppies" but with Internet it's much easier to transport data electronically than on a hard medium.
Pretty soon all TV's will have CPU's and requirements for fast memory - something Rambus should benefit from. Not to say that some industry giants will not make efforts also in this field but Rambus has taken a lead that will be hard to catch and I also believe they're not sitting on their hands - I'm sure new solutions and patent-applications are reviewed at Rambus on a weekly basis.
Their potential market is enormous, just the requirement for PC-memory alone is astonishing, even if Rambus gets "only" 50% of this market they will be a billion-dollar company within 5 years. Then add the TV-market, the automobile-industry .........(so far they have really only seen royalties from Nitendo)
Rambus is trading at a very high P/E based on 1997 earnings but I think a miniscule P/E based on 2000/2001 earnings.
All of the above should become very clear in the very near future and then the stock will roar to new highs.
I predict we will see 100 before the stock is 1 year old!
