It is fairly clear that the virus is on its way to being endemic in many parts, if not most, of the world. I would expect that new vaccine formulations will be necessary on an annual basis.

Since the virus is out of control in India and Brazil the chance of even worse variants showing up is likely increasing. One can hope that the biotechnology folks will be able to keep up with this, but I doubt that the world's politicians will be able to keep satisfy the demands of their citizens for a desired return to their pre-pandemic world.

Good chance that Goldilocks and Pollyanna will be road kill.

South African variant can 'break through' Pfizer vaccine.

Variants aside, the first generation vaccines don't convey "herd immunity"... since they don't convey ANY immunity... they only protect YOU from symptoms being over-expressed... so you won't die, but that does nothing to stop the spread ?

The disconnects are all about stupidity on the part of officials and people... thinking because they got a shot they have immunity... when they don't. So, getting the population inoculated... and telling them that has given them immunity when it hasn't... only makes the problem more acute... infection more likely... exposures to innoculum more concentrated...

At the same time, if the symptoms of new variants aren't suppressed by current generation vaccines... the new variants will work and spread just like the old one did at the start... and here we go again... early on the curve...

Except, better vaccines should be out by this summer...

Still should make for an interesting couple of months as reality collides with idiocracy... again.
