Yes, I agree with that. And our current set up has congress doing designs by fiat, and that shouldn't be.

The model of the Joint Committee on Taxation, along with its highly competent staff, is a good one. Although over 100 years it has become a monstrosity, too, it is some of the most complex material you can get and still, reasonable systems evolved from it over a period of years. It has cratered now, but we got a lot of functionality out of it.

I think we are victims of our own success as a country. As Franklin so presciently put it, "We have a Republic if we can keep it." I think it has run its course.

I am disappointed but not surprised. I have mentioned before the great Thomas Sowell's comment some time back that he figured we have maybe a five percent chance of survival; but since that time, we've move from a persistent liberal bent to a "We'll take over if we have to kill you" approach by Democrats.

At this point I am going to try to be an observer and complainer. Nothing else to do. I believe younger generations are getting a comeuppance. My hope is the lesson is learned.
