I'm not a Sony drive advocate (however I would be an advocate of a Sony takeover bid at $25), but I think the Sony strategy will be to sell their drive at a loss to keep it price competitive. This way, their competitors will have an incentive to buy as many as possible in order to give Sony the biggest loss possible. This will take care of your worries: because every Sony drive they would sell would put $ in the coffers of a competitor.
