Long-term interest rates perk up
Dow -95.04 at 34105.63, Nasdaq -104.47 at 13947.90, S&P -14.40 at 4171.07

[BRIEFING.COM] The S&P 500 is trading lower by 0.4% amid a lack of follow-through from buyers
after the benchmark index closed at a record high on Friday.

The energy (+0.2%) and real estate (+0.1%) sectors are the only sectors trading higher right now.

In the Treasury market, the 10-yr yield is trading at 1.60%, or three basis points
above Friday's settlement, after dipping to 1.55% overnight.

This is the second straight session that long-term rates are up,
which many are contributing to the under performance of the
Nasdaq (-0.7%) and growth stocks today
.

The CBOE Volatility Index is up 7.2% to 17.42, as the negative bias
in the stock market increases interest for downside protection.
