Here is a three minute clip with Trump's actual words so even someone as lazy as you can listen to it:
youtube.com

He says in the clip that it has a five percent fatality rate rather than a one percent rate. And it spreads through the air so it is highly contagious. He should at that point been gearing up for it to come to the States, getting more PPE for the hospitals and warning people that it would be likely to come instead of saying it will be going to zero soon. He was intentionally downplaying it, he says. What a jerk--he could have saved hundreds of thousands of lives and been reelected in a landslide if he been honest with people. Let me amend that statement--what a stupid jerk.

And no, I am not going to defend Fauci or Brix here.

But the buck stops at the guy sitting in the big chair in the Oval Office.

That's not what happened, and the details matter. This is a case of MSNBC and the others exaggerating what is actually a pretty minor negative on Trump's part to make him look foolish and uncaring. Woodward no doubt quoted Trump accurately, but news reports were universally false.

MSNBC/CNN even FOX and other networks had Woodward on screen multiple times...HE was the one who expressed shock and disbelief at the callousness of the trump comments. The networks simply hosted the man who actually spoke to trump.

Trump stated a fact: "Coronavirus is more deadly than even your strenuous flus." That is a true statement, but lacks the context of the spread. On February 7, the US had yet to experience its first Covid death. Moreover, it would be MARCH 1 before we were aware of any Covid death. That is a pretty big item to leave out of these interviews with Woodward. The US had yet to see its first death?

Your mind is so polluted that you miss the point by a mile and some...consider...even if we subscribe to the notion that he didn't know the deadly nature (far fetched, considering the severity of the language he used with BW)...but ok...no deaths in America at that that point...explain why trump continued to downplay the severity of the pandemic for months thereafter...

doggett.house.gov

January 30th 2020 - Seven days before trump's statement to Woodward.

"The lack of immune protection or an existing cure or vaccine would leave Americans defenseless in the case of a full-blown coronavirus outbreak on US soil,...This lack of protection elevates the risk of the coronavirus evolving into a full-blown pandemic, imperiling the lives of millions of Americans.” [Memo from Trump Trade Advisor Peter Navarro]

That's criminal negligence...

Fauci may have been cautious early on, but his warnings to the nation sharpened rapidly as the illness' severity became clearer.

Not trump...all he gave a shit about was the effect that the pandemic would have on his re-election chances. That thousands of people would die had absolutely no effect on his behavior. Again - CRIMINAL NEGLIGENCE. In another country this guy would be on trial...
