"...in lamps with scarves tossed over them in a carefree and youthful manner.."

The only time I ever tried this was when I was eighteen, at my girlfriend's house. Never again. Said scarf was most regrettably not the flame retardant type, and it completely ruined a perfectly good assignation. Though my girlfriend's sister had a laugh or two over the issue of just how we had managed to smoke up the basement so badly.

<They made love only during total eclipses of the sun. They wouldn't take their clothes off unless it was dark in the entire world.>

This fragment is really beautiful, Miss Penni. What is it from?

I am not sure I can wait to make love until the next total eclipse of the sun, however. Can't we just all close our eyes or something?

<<those soft pink bulbs, in lamps with scarves tossed over them in a carefree and youthful manner...
The difference between pornography and erotica is lighting."
(Gloria Leonard)

I'm not sure taht's exactly what she meant.

I knew a woman in New York--at the time she must have been about, oh, 35 or 36, divorced. Her bedroom was entirely pink. Oh, yes, the bulbs, the scarves. Also the pink teddy-bears and pink dolls on the bed with a pink organza canopy and a pink silk quilted cover. All of it sweet enough to make your teeth hurt.

And her living room was Total Bordello. All red velvet and gilt whatever. Not cheap stuff by any means. This was simply her, um, taste. Dressed like a hooker, too, and joked about it.

Odd, but interesting, person, in her way.
