Good point! You have the right to dispute any charges to your 'card' if they are not authorized. I check my bill, and I'm sure you do too!

As for the pushing of prices I have to admit that there is the real 'possibility' that could occur. By the time that this might occur, I would think that the 'old' software would 'do so much' (it does) that I could just stop upgrading! ( I did that with some software that just didn't work as I had hoped. Sure I got 'stung' for one upgrade, but not again! ) I think eventually we have to vote with our checkbook and stop buying what we don't want!

Yes, keep the trap bated, I CANNOT run without an OS, but I CAN write APP's. (Not nearly as great as what I can by for the same price! If one ever considers his time worth anything, software development is quite expensive and needs pretty wide distribution to make $.

Thoughts?

Ken

Ok Bill lets get to the heart of the matter --

You all (Dan, Dermot, etc...) keep claiming this BS

Will MSFT ever start to act like a true monopoly and push up the prices?
It has already started to do that

But it isn't true and I want you to name the products and the increase in price and I will start with one that goes against your claim -

Microsoft Office 97 Professional - Includes
---- Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access

From the MicroWarehouse Web Site
$529.95 Upgrade $309.95

From the ProVantage Web Site
$509.00 Upgrade $292.79

As I remeber when I bought WordPerfect 4.0 in 1987/88 (I believe that this is the right timeframe) through my University at special student pricing it cost me over $400.00 just for a word processor. Looks to me like I get one hell of a lot more software (Word Processor, Spreadsheet, Presentation, E-Mail/PIM, and Database) for roughly the same price as a word processor. Looks like falling prices to me.

Larry...

BTW - If you plan to compare the price of Win95 to DOS or Windows please add the price of DOS and Windows together and lets see.
