K&S Wins $9.8 Million Order From Focused Technology For
Integration-Ready Front-of-Line Assembly Equipment

WILLOW GROVE, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 3, 1998--Focused Technology Corp., a startup contract assembler, has
selected Kulicke & Soffa Industries (NASDAQ: KLIC - news) to provide integration-ready front-of-line (FOL) assembly
equipment, from dicing through wire bond, for its first factory in Hsinchu, Taiwan.

The initial order, for Modules 1 and 2, will begin shipping in March 1998 and is valued at $9.8 million. Equipment will consist
of K&S Model 7500 automatic wafer dicing systems, K&S Model 8020 gold ball bonders, both stand-alone and configured
for use in a Flex Line in-line system, and third-party cure ovens, wafer mount and die bonding systems.

Scheduled to be operational by mid-1998, Modules 1 and 2 will assemble and test quad flat pack (QFP) and thin quad flat
pack (TQFP) devices.

According to Tony Adams, president of Focused Technology, K&S was selected as the FOL equipment supplier because of
its ability to combine world-class machines into an automated, in-line solution.

''We determined that integration of the industry's leading technologies will provide maximum competitive advantage by
minimizing production cycle times,'' Adams said. ''Focused Technologies' modular factory concept ultimately will go beyond
equipment integration. We are partnering with K&S to provide future lot and material tracking capability never before available
in back-end assembly.''

''This further validates our strategy to provide open interfaces that support third-party equipment, giving our customers the
ability to combine our machines with other industry leading products,'' added John Campanale, K&S vice president, factory
systems.

Kulicke & Soffa serves the integrated circuit assembly market with a product line that includes wire bonding, die bonding,
wafer dicing and factory automation equipment, as well as packaging materials, including bonding wire, capillaries, wedges, die
collets and saw blades, and has sales and service facilities worldwide. The company's web site address is www.kns.com.
