If they aproached with threatening posture, I would kneel, draw, maybe go back down, feet forward, use feet as first line of defense... if they tried to cut me they would get one shot in lower abdomen. I'd prefer a lighter round, .32 or less.
First of all, that's a kill shot right there. You claimed that you could stop someone with a gun without killing him, but a shot to the abdomen is lethal.

Secondly, even lethal shots won't necessarily stop the threat. The perp can keep coming at you until he bleeds out, but by then he will have already closed the distance.

And third, the moment you decide to take the shot will most likely be the moment when the target is moving. How are you so sure that you can shoot once and hit the target exactly in the spot you are aiming for under duress?

That's why everyone who has ever taken firearms training is taught to keep shooting until the threat is stopped. There is no futzing around with "oh my I'll just 'em once and see if that stops them" because you're not saving that guy's life and you're putting yourself at needless risk.
