That is very a deceptive comment you just made which fails to take into account so many factors. compare the the growth of the populations between the two states. New York State politicians like politicans everywhere kick the can the down the road. they never funded their future pension costs for examples so they are paying now for costs they incurred decades ago based upon the existing population which was way larger than florida's. New York city and its environs has had a much higher cost of living thant Florida until recently. They also also housed the UN, many consulates, the financial center, two major airports etc.

You cant just turn back the clock and start from 1/1/2021. Having said I agree that New York state finances as almost all states have been poorly managed because of politicians proclivity to kick the can down the road wherever possible.
